Ten Lessons Learned From The First Time

1.) You need to pack even less than you think.

2.) Not having a smart phone is completely worth it.

3.) For heaven's sake, know when you're standing on a drawbridge.

4.) Spend less. You never know when you'll need that extra money.

5.) Treat yourself to one thing every day.

6.) There are banal, stressful realities to travelling. Like taking inventory of your things. Give space for those things too - not everything is going to be cushy romantic.

7. ) Give any activity (and yourself) the time it needs to be done right. Otherwise, it will be half-assed and you'll be left tired.

8.) Take breaks. You're working hard, adventures are tough.

9.) It's okay not to see everything. See what you can and enjoy it fully. This will be more productive.

10.) You will find that you love every last bit of this, even the bad moments. Relish that.

  1. Even "bad" moments, like, say being stranded at night in a foreign city can turn out to be adventures in their own right.

  2. Hi Joel! This is splendid! And yes, that was an adventure in its own right. :) I still fondly tell people of that whole shenanigan. Did you ever manage to get your things back?
